Join the Whenua Iti Outdoors team in Te Tauihu for an inspiring 4-day experience of discovery, learning and connection.
This unique wānanga is designed to grow your understanding of Te Ao Māori, while strengthening outdoor and active recreation practices through meaningful learning opportunities that foster a deeper relationship with Te Taiao.


What is it about?
The wānanga will be 4 days of connection and inspiration to help support pathways to te taiao within our mahi through a deeper understanding of te ao Māori. It is designed for those who work across the active recreation and education sectors.
Speaker Announcement: Pā Ropata
Rob McGowan (known as Pā Ropata to many) is a prominent Rongoā Māori practitioner, educator, and conservationist, well respected for his work revitalising traditional Māori knowledge of native plants and medicines. Pā will be a guest speaker at the wānanga and will be running a workshop on Rongoā Māori based at Whenua Iti Outdoors as one of the field excursions.
Other guest speakers will include Shep Hēpara, Kiley Nepia and Aneika Young.
Facilitated Field Trips to sites of cultural significance including Riuwaka Resurgence, Kaiteretere and Te Maatu.
