Taiao opportunities
Two great opportunities for whānau interested in working in the taiao space.

Te Pū Hono Cadetship
The Te Pū Hono Cadetship programme is a brand new, paid, three-year programme starting in January 2026 aimed at people who are passionate about nature and looking to build a career in conservation.
It is designed to help participants grow into confident, capable conservation rangers. Cadets will gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and work in some of Aotearoa’s most stunning places – all while making a real difference for te taiao.
Te Papa Atawhai are looking for people from all walks of life - whether they’re just starting out, thinking about a career change, or already have some experience under their belt. They’ll need to be fit, ready to work in remote and challenging environments and flexible to move around the country wherever the work takes them.
Cadets will be based in the Wairau Renwick office. While the programme will be led from our Biodiversity, Heritage and Visitor Unit, the programme will also work closely with the Operations team.
