Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Āwhina are seeking two passionate and dedicated Kaiako to join the whānau. This role is central to the learning and well being of our mokopuna, ensuring that Te Kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo is upheld and nurtured every day.

  • Position: Kaiako x 2
  • Hours: 35 per week
  • Rate: Dependent on Pay Parity Pay Band (to be discussed)

Requirements:

  • Fluency in Te Reo Māori, tikanga me ngā āhuatanga Māori
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • Clear and current Police Vetting as part of safety check requirements
  • Demonstrates experience and understanding of Te Whāriki ā Te Kōhanga Reo
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of Te Kōhanga Reo Kaupapa, Te Korowai, te Tūtūhunga me Te Ara Tūpapa
  • Demonstrates skills and child management practices, working with your peers and whānau engagement
  • Ability to work with and receive advice and direction from the Kaiako Matua

Desirable:

  • Te Tohu Mātauranga Whakapakari Tino Rangatiratanga o Te Kōhanga Reo (L6 Diploma)
  • At least three years’ experience as a Kaiako in Kōhanga Reo

Key Responsibilities:

  • Kaiako will work to an approved whānau and kaiako matua plan and help prepare and carry out Te Whāriki ā Te Kōhanga Reo.
  • The Learning Plan will be developed by all kaimahi with guidance and advice from whānau and kaiako matua, and will follow the kōhanga reo Te Ara Tūpapa.
  • The Plan will include Te Mahere ā Tau, Mahere ā Marama, and Mahere iā Rā.
  • The Plan will also include Mātai Tamariki and evaluations, which will feed into the monthly report that shares feedback about the learning and progress of mokopuna at whānau hui.
  • Mokopuna records and all other important documentation will be kept up to date and stored properly as a team.
  • Kaiako will support the overall care of mokopuna, making sure resources and services are well looked after and kept to a high standard.
  • Kaiako will follow kōhanga reo policies, procedures, and processes set out in Te Tūtōhinga.
  • Working together between kaimahi, mokopuna, whānau and kaiako matua will be positive, trusting, and welcoming.
  • The Kōhanga Matua will oversee the day-to-day running of kōhanga activities.
  • Kaiako will make sure the safety and wellbeing of mokopuna always comes first.
  • Kaiako will seek advice and training opportunities to continue learning and growing in the kaupapa.
  • Kaiako will attend and take part in kaimahi hui as an important part of their role.
  • Kaiako will give regular updates and reports to the Kaiako matua or tiamana to ensure clear communication and accountability.
