Ame Millan - the first whānau into Waikārapi
Such a special occasion on Saturday morning as we opened three whare at the Waikārapi Housing Development on Hospital Road in Wairau.
Mā te toiere e kotahi ai te hoe - working together gets the job done!

The day was special because Ame Millan was the first Ngāti Rārua whānau moving into one of the homes that were blessed. Ka mau te wehi!
Pathways into modern housing like this are made possible through our partnerships with Ka Uruora and other iwi in Te Tauihu. Together we are making it real!
Ngā mihi nui to Kaikarakia Barney Thomas and Kaikaranga Tineka Smith, Ngawaina Shorrock, Theresa Bird and Lorraine Eade, who all proudly stood for Ngāti Rārua.
Some 200 people browsed the houses and got an up close picture of the community that is forming during the open day. The chance to have ice cream, coffee and play on the diggers must have helped!
To top it all off, Rae Beckett, a Rārua tamariki, came second in the Junior art competition!
Ngā mihi to everyone who made this fantastic day possible.
