Governor General welcomed to Te Tauihu

Another meaningful occasion took place yesterday as Ngā Iwi e waru o Te Tauihu welcomed Her Excellency Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro to Whakatū Marae.

There was strong attendance at the haka pōwhiri, followed by kai whakanoa which was accompanied by kapa from our kura.

During her stay Dame Cindy met with Iwi leaders, will thank emergency workers for their service during last year’s storms, and visit the multi-cultural centre, Nelson Women’s centre, local businesses, and other organisations.

We were delighted Dame Cindy could spend time in our region in the final year of her term. She was presented a taonga to commemorate the visit.
