Te Āwhina Marae currently has a three-bedroom whare available within their Papakāinga community, and are inviting Expressions of Interest from whānau who would like to live as part of our marae whānau.
The Papakāinga is a place for whānau who wish to live in a way that upholds our tikanga, values and connection to Te Āwhina. Tenants contribute to the life of the marae - supporting pōwhiri, tangihanga, wānanga, parakore, māra kai, and other kaupapa that strengthen our whānau and hapori.
Eligibility: Priority is given to:
- Mana Whenua – Ngāti Rārua and Te Ātiawa ki Motueka
- Registered Wakatū shareholders who whakapapa to the original 254 owners
- Registered members of Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama, or Ngāti Koata
- Whānau from Kurahaupō / Mataawaka connections
- Community members who actively support Te Āwhina kaupapa
All whānau tenants must also:
- Uphold the tikanga and values of Te Āwhina Marae
- Participate in marae and papakāinga kaupapa and programmes
- Support the collective wellbeing of the whānau and community
