Improvements at Wairau landfill site to enhance mauri o te taiao

The Blue Gums Landfill project aims to significantly enhance the mauri of te taiao through long-term improvements to waste management practices in Wairau. This site receives all residual waste for Marlborough.

Marlborough District Council and Tonkin + Taylor Environmental Engineers are working with Ngāti Rārua taiao kaimahi and other Wairau mana whenua representatives to achieve better outcomes for the landfill facility through to 2060.

A key part of the project is involvement in the resource consent renewal, which is due by 2030. Marlborough District Council engagement with iwi for this kaupapa has been exemplary and meaningful.
