Kelly Hayes (left) and Rangi Anderson have been working with us to develop our cultural health monitoring framework.

For the past 12 weeks, Tira Taiao have been very fortunate to have Rangi Anderson and Kelly Hayes working with us on the Ngāti Rārua Cultural Health Monitoring Framework.

Rangi and Kelly have been cadets at Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council for the past year and have worked with various iwi organisations for one day per week as part of their mahi.

Rangi and Kelly have developed the Ngāti Rārua ‘Te Pae Haurapa’ software app.

Te Pae Haurapa is a cultural health monitoring survey designed to capture environmental and cultural health. The information collected will make us more aware of our changing environment and alert us when and where action must occur. Over time this collection of data will grow our mātauranga and keep Ngāti Rārua better connected to the taiao.

Rangi and Kelly worked very hard on this project and delivered a really high quality resource.  They gave a presentation to Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua kaimahi on their project and it is fair to say everyone was very impressed.

Ngā mihi nui ki a kōrua – we are indebted to you for producing such an excellent foundation for the Ngāti Rārua cultural health monitoring programme.
