Te Heke Whakangā Whakamutunga
Last week we closed the doors on Te Heke Whakangā ki Mohua, the third leg of our heke to be shared across Te Tauihu.
Since it opened in June at Golden Bay Museum Te Waka Huia o Mohua, the exhibition has carried a strong mauri and has been a place for our whānau to stand a little taller in the stories of our tupuna – their advocacy, their resilience, and their vision for the future.
We think of the late Tui Martin, whose kōrero on the founding of Onetahua Marae reminded us all why this mahi matters.
Ngā mihi to Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Tama, and Manawhenua ki Mohua for standing with us, to the Golden Bay Museum team for their care, to the Tokomaru Research Centre team for their ongoing mahi and dedication, also to the whānau and community members who came through to learn our hekengā and pūrākau.
