Te Umu Kohukohu Whetū at Wairau Pa

Yesterday morning we gathered at Wairau Pa for a beautiful Hautapu Ceremony to welcome Matariki. 

Matariki is a time to reflect, remember, and look ahead — a time for wānanga, whanaungatanga, and renewal.

The 2025 theme for Matariki – Mā Puanga was centred on inclusion, diversity, and the collective celebration of Matariki. Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua acknowledges everyone who has supported our fourth Te Umu Kohukohu Whetū.

We know each whānau marks this season in their own way. However you’re spending this time, whether quietly remembering loved ones, sharing kai, or setting intentions for the year ahead, we send our aroha to you and your whānau.
