    Aroturuki Tamariki pay a visit

It was lovely to connect with Arran (Chief Executive) and Hera (Principal Advisor) from Aroturuki Tamariki, the Independent Children’s Monitor, in Te Whare Mānuka recently.

Their work is to enhance equity for tamariki and rangatahi, and they do this by listening to the voices of tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and the organisations that support them. Naturally this includes iwi and Māori organisations and Aroturuki Tamariki are interested to hear about what works and what needs to be improved to provide the right supports at the right time.

They also work with the Ombudsman and Children and Young People’s Commission (formerly the Office of the Children’s Commissioner) and their monitoring includes government organisations such as Oranga Tamariki, the Police and health and education agencies.

In our rohe, the team will visit regularly and share updates to encourage greater cross-agency collaboration. We look forward to seeing them again soon!
